Bringing the Troops Home:
Lake Winnebago Green Party Launches Effort for
Referendum on Troop Withdrawal
The Lake Winnebago Green
Party, with the Winnebago Peace and Justice Center, concerned
Democrats, and others kicked off a petition drive August
31 to place a non-binding referendum question on the Oshkosh
Municipal Ballot that reads:
In order to place this referendum
on the ballot, we need to gather 3,000 signatures in Oshkosh
in 60 days. The petition drive is in overdrive, and we
encourage all citizens of Oshkosh who are opposed to the
war to sign the petition and work with us to put this
on the ballot.
This is Grassroots Democracy
in action. Although a non-binding referendum has no force
of law, we the citizens of Oshkosh have never been given
a voice on the direction that our government is taking
us. All we ask is that "We the People" be allowed
to control our own ballots so that we can speak our peace
at the ballot box.
How you
can get involved!
Download the petition
here (adobe acrobat required),
print it, sign it, and get nine of your friends and family
to sign it as well. You must be an Oshkosh resident to
sign the petition, but anyone can collect signatures.
Return completed petitions to Jenni Ryan at the University
Credit Union, in Reeve Union, on the campus of the University
of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
We are hitting the streets
to canvass the community on Saturday October 15, and again
on Saturday October 22. Come to the Winnebago Peace and
Justice Center (321 Market St. across from the fountain)
at 1 PM to help out with our door to door campaign.
Our deadline for petitions
is October 27th, so act fast and act now! Come join like
minded individuals who are committed to grassroots democracy
and an end to the war. All are welcome!
